Fortunately, we can introduce another Flying Spur that is known and popular as the top of S3 Continental variation.
Flying Spur body was experimentally produced since around 1956 on S1 Continental chassis, and formally announced to produce on S3 as a four-door version of S2 Continental 2 door saloon style. Designer of this style is believed to be John P. Blotchley、a thief designer of Rolls ?Royce, who did R-Type Continental and Silver Cloud /S Type Saloon. Bodies were all aluminium handmade, upholstery is even better than the standard steel saloon. Since these are the last of coach build cars and owner’s choice on details are unique on every car, you can’t find the exact same spec car.
Starting with one S1 Continental Flying Spur was sold to the USA in September 1957, and two produced for the British market, the total 50 cars were made as S1 Continental. In 1958 when Standard saloon received the V8 OHV, 6,230cc engine to be series 2, Continental model changed into S2 and into S3 with four headlamps in 1962. The total of 83 (or 87 depending on the research ) were produced.
This car, compared with another we have, is more original spec retained. Cosmetically and mechanically in marvellous condition. A museum piece car forcollectors looking for the best.
